The log-delivery example: why this is the killer use case

Vended log delivery in CloudFormation requires coordinating three resources — AWS::Logs::DeliverySource, AWS::Logs::DeliveryDestination, and AWS::Logs::Delivery — plus per-destination IAM permissions, and this boilerplate must be repeated for every resource type. Because the log-delivery abstraction is decoupled from any single construct, a single mixin (CfnWebACLAccessLogs().toS3(...) / .toLogGroup(...) / .toDestination(...)) collapses all that work into one .with() call across all 47 supported resources, and toDestination() even enables cross-account centralized logging by referencing a pre-created destination without granting direct access. Traditionally this would have required dedicated L2 support for each of the 47 resources; Mixins deliver it uniformly.

  1. Prefer .with() for ergonomics, Mixins.of() for control. .with() (JS/TS) gives the cleanest fluent experience and silently skips unsupported constructs; reach for Mixins.of() when working in other languages or when you need a precise ConstructSelector (by id, by resource type) to decide exactly which constructs receive the mixin.
  2. Package org-wide policy as custom mixins. Encode recurring security, compliance, and recovery requirements into mixin classes (like MyDataRecovery), declare support via supports(), and apply them app-wide with cdk.Mixins.of(app).apply(...) so every construct — L1 or L2 — inherits the same baseline.
